Model Village project at Kayadanga

Kayadanga is a village in West Bengal with a population of 2686 people, out of which 1304 individuals are women. Sadly, the majority of women in Kayadanga lack basic education and vocational skills. Unemployment and low-income jobs are rampant, forcing many families to struggle to make ends meet. Women and
underprivileged communities have been pushed to the sidelines, with little access to resources or opportunities to improve their lives.

The Model Village project, with support from CloudCodes Software, aims to empower these communities through education, skilling, and social security initiatives.
The project’s goal is to facilitate empowerment, solidarity, and leadership capacities among rural villagers and the underprivileged social sections of Kayadanga.

One of the major issues the project identified was the lack of vocational skills among women and youth. To address this, we recently opened a skilling center that provides courses in tailoring and beautician skills. The courses aim to equip women with the skills and knowledge they need to become self-reliant, financially independent, and leaders in their communities.

The beautician course covers grooming, makeup, and haircuts. Participants learn techniques for applying makeup, skincare, and hairstyling, and are provided with hands-on training and practice. With these skills, women can start their own beauty parlor, earning a living wage and providing for their families.

The tailoring course covers basic stitching, cutting, dress designing and stitching, hospital and hotel aprons’, disposable dresses’ and school uniforms’ stitching. Participants learn how to measure, cut, and sew fabrics to create clothing items that are in demand in the local community. With these skills, participants can become self-employed and start their own tailoring business or work in garment factory nearby, earning a decent income and supporting their families.

The project’s skilling center also provides participants with information on government schemes and programs that can help them start their own businesses or access other opportunities to improve their lives. By connecting participants with these resources, the project aims to ensure that the skills they learn, are put to good use, and that the impact of the skilling center extends beyond the classroom.

This Model Village project is a working example of how initiatives like education and skilling make a real difference in underprivileged communities. By providing access to vocational training, the project is empowering women in Kayadanga, enabling them to become self-reliant and financially independent. The project’s impact is expected to grow, creating a brighter future for Kayadanga and its residents.
